Some places don’t need decorating – they just need to be understood. Villa Bettoni in Bogliaco di Gargnano is one of them: an 18th-century palazzo whose façade stands right on the shore of Lake Garda, with a baroque terraced garden behind it and nothing but water and the mountains of Monte Baldo in front. On 1 August 2026, Joana & Felix got married here – and we at rockwedding had the privilege of planning this day from the very first idea to the last dance.
In this article we take you along: through a day full of paper parasols, chocolate-brown satin bows, white blooms and a dinner under string lights. We also show you why a Villa Bettoni wedding is one of the most beautiful destination weddings you can celebrate on Lake Garda – and what to keep in mind when planning one. At the end you’ll find a detailed FAQ about the venue.
Villa Bettoni – a wedding venue like a painting
Villa Bettoni was built from the mid-18th century by the Bettoni family of counts, who made their fortune partly from trading citrus fruit from Lake Garda. The villa is still owned by the family today. The neoclassical lake façade with statues of gods on the balustrade, the magnificent staircase with its sculptures and the frescoes inside have earned it the nickname “little Versailles” of Lake Garda.

The real secret, however, lies across the road: the baroque garden with staircases, fountains, a grotto and lemon terraces, connected to the villa by raised walkways. There is hardly anything comparable on the whole of Lake Garda for couple portraits.

For us as wedding planners, Villa Bettoni is both a gift and a challenge. A gift, because the architecture is so strong that every piece of decor only needs to underline it. A challenge, because a historic estate with lake access, a road running through the grounds and many levels demands precise logistics: where do the guests stand in the midday sun? How do 100 kilos of rental items get up stairs and across gravel? When does the ceremony terrace become the aperitivo area, and when does the garden become the dinner table?

The concept: Lake Garda elegance in white, green and chocolate brown
Joana & Felix wanted a wedding that felt timeless, elegant and light – nothing overloaded, no kitschy romance, but Italian summer ease with a modern twist. Together we developed a colour palette that ran through the whole day:
- White and green in the florals – hydrangeas, roses and calla lilies with lots of fresh greenery, plus delicate yellow accents that catch the light of the lake.
- Chocolate brown as a fashionable counterpoint – in the bridesmaids’ dresses, the napkins, the satin bows and the menu cards.
- Natural materials: bentwood chairs, linen, wicker and paper parasols.
- Macchiato beige as a calm link – above all on the large escort wall from vonRock.
The result: a look that felt just as natural in front of the villa’s golden-yellow façade as it did against the deep blue of the lake.
Behind the scenes: Stephie & Sophia on site
A wedding like this isn’t created on the wedding day – it is created over months of coordination, timelines, site plans and phone calls in Italian, German and English. On the day itself, our wedding planners Stephie & Sophia were on site and held all the threads together: from welcoming the vendors early in the morning and filling the escort wall to the last bow on the last napkin.

What you don’t see in the finished pictures is the timing behind them: setting up the chairs on the ceremony terrace while there is still shade. The florals, which go out into the August heat as late as possible. The switch from aperitivo to dinner, which seems effortless to the guests – and is in fact planned to the minute. For us, that is exactly what a wedding planner’s work is about: making everything feel easy in the end.

Getting ready: calm before the big moment
The day began quietly. While set-up was already under way outside, Joana got ready at her own pace – accompanied by her bridesmaids and by Serena Sampietro, who took care of hair & make-up. A natural, fresh look that perfectly complemented Joana’s clean, simple wedding dress.

Arriving by boat: Lake Garda as the stage
If you get married on Lake Garda, you shouldn’t just look at the lake – you should experience it. That’s why Joana & Felix crossed the water in a motorboat from Danieli Boat Service. Villa Bettoni has its own access to the lake, and there is hardly a more beautiful moment than watching the façade slowly grow larger from the water.

The symbolic ceremony on the terrace above the lake
For the ceremony we chose the terrace above the lake: a long white aisle lined with bentwood chairs and cream bows, a lush floral installation on the historic balustrade at the end – and behind it nothing but water and mountains.

The florals by Il Fiore all’Occhiello were deliberately wild and natural: white hydrangeas and roses, flowing greenery, a hint of yellow. Nothing stiff, nothing too symmetrical – as if the villa’s garden had simply grown up to the balustrade.

Because an August ceremony on Lake Garda takes place in the midday sun, we thought of the guests: white paper parasols waited at the entrance to the ceremony in two Basque baskets from vonRock. Every guest took one – and almost incidentally one of the most beautiful images of the day was created: a sea of white parasols against the blue lake.

Then the entrance: Joana walked down the historic stone staircase to the terrace on her father’s arm. Celebrant Katrin Bamberger led the ceremony – personal, humorous and moving. There were tears, there was laughter, and there was an exchange of rings with Lake Garda as the quietest witness.

Couple shoot between baroque staircases and bougainvillea
After the ceremony there was time for couple and group photos – and this is where Villa Bettoni shows its full strength. The baroque staircase with its statues, the bougainvillea-covered garden paths, the bridesmaids in chocolate brown with white paper parasols: Pasalic Studio turned them into images that look like they’re from a fashion magazine.

Drinks reception with aperitivo, live music and a kids’ programme
While the couple were away, the most Italian part of the day began for the guests: the aperitivo in the garden. Food & Sweet Catering had set up an opulent buffet – with bread baskets, fruit, antipasti and live cooking. A welcome sign greeted the guests, the band The Kingsmen played between the cocktail tables, and the violin of Melodia Wedding laid an elegant carpet of sound over the garden.

For the guests’ gifts there was a simple acrylic gift box from vonRock – discreet, elegant and just as transparent as suited the light overall look. And so that the parents could celebrate in a relaxed way too, Feel Party lovingly looked after the youngest guests.

The highlight: the escort wall in macchiato beige from vonRock
And then came the moment we had been especially looking forward to during the planning: the switch from aperitivo to dinner – and with it the appearance of the escort wall in macchiato beige (300 × 220 cm) from the rental collection of vonRock.

Why an escort wall – and not just a seating chart?
At a wedding with many guests, a seating chart is a purely functional element: it has to be easy to read and quick to take in, and it has to stand in a place where guests can gather without holding up the flow of the day. An escort wall can do all of that – and at the same time it is a design object that shapes the space. Instead of a small easel, which would simply disappear in front of a façade of this scale, here stood a wall that meets the architecture of Villa Bettoni at eye level.

The colour: macchiato beige against golden-yellow stone
Villa Bettoni has a warm, golden-yellow façade with green shutters and ivy-covered loggias. Pure white would have looked cold and harsh in front of it, a dark tone too heavy. Macchiato beige, on the other hand, is a soft, creamy off-white with a hint of warmth – it picks up the limestone of the façade, harmonises with the linen of the tablecloths and forms the perfect calm background for the chocolate-brown seating cards. In the pictures you can see how naturally the wall stands in front of the historic walls – as if it had always belonged there.
The format: 300 × 220 cm, the closed version
The escort wall consists of three panels and measures a total of three metres wide and 2.20 metres high. We chose the closed version: a continuous, smooth surface without openings that is ideal as a seating chart or welcome board. “Joana & Felix” stood out in elegant calligraphy in the centre panel, and the guests’ cards were lined up below it and on the side wings – sorted by table and easy to read at eye level.

The effect: a meeting point, not a signpost
What we love about an escort wall: it becomes the social centre. Guests stop, look for their name, discover who is sitting at their table, laugh and take photos. At Joana & Felix’s wedding, the wall became the meeting point of the evening for half an hour – right where the guests moved from the aperitivo garden to the dinner area. We deliberately placed it so that it was visible from the aperitivo and at the same time opened the way to the tables. This way it guided the flow of guests quite naturally, without anyone having to say “this way, please”.

Styling: wall, flowers and table as one story
So that the escort wall didn’t look like a foreign object, we integrated it into the floral concept: white blooms and fresh greenery at the foot of the wall picked up the florals on the tables. The card colour – a deep chocolate brown – was repeated in the napkins, the satin bows and the menu cards. Anyone who found their name on the wall and then walked to their table experienced a continuous design from the first station to the last.

Logistics: from Elzach to Lake Garda
A wall of this size doesn’t travel as hand luggage. The escort wall was delivered to Lake Garda by vonRock from Elzach in the Black Forest, together with the Basque baskets and the gift box – around 100 kilos of rental items in total. On site, our team set it up and filled it with the cards, then took it down and brought it back after the wedding. For the couple that meant zero effort, maximum impact.
Who is the escort wall suitable for?
- For weddings with many guests, where a seating chart needs to be taken in quickly.
- For spacious venues such as villas, castles or gardens, where small displays look lost.
- As a welcome board at the entrance, a photo wall or a backdrop for the guest book corner.
- Combined with flowers, candles or string lights, it becomes the centrepiece of your decor.
By the way, you can rent the escort wall in macchiato beige directly from vonRock: Escort wall in macchiato beige 300 × 220 cm at vonRock. Lettering and cards can be attached individually – and are removed without residue after the wedding.
Dinner under string lights: Italy as you dream it
As the sun sank lower, the guests took their seats at the round tables in the garden. Cream linen, bentwood chairs, tall glasses, chocolate-brown napkins with satin bows and calla lilies, flower arrangements in white, green and soft yellow – and behind it all the villa with its ivy-covered loggia.

With the blue hour came the light: string lights by CroVal stretched over the tables, the villa’s façade was lit in warm tones, and the lake turned into a dark surface on which only the lights of the opposite shore still glittered. Food & Sweet served an Italian menu, The Kingsmen played during dinner – and in between there were speeches that left no one unmoved.

Cake, first dance and a night by the lake
Instead of a classic tiered cake there was a live dessert: the chefs from Food & Sweet built a huge cake right in front of the guests, and Joana & Felix finished it together with cream and berries. Afterwards the two opened the dance floor, and Melodia Wedding took over as DJ – until late into the night.

FAQ: getting married at Villa Bettoni on Lake Garda
Where is Villa Bettoni?
Villa Bettoni is in Bogliaco, part of Gargnano on the western shore of Lake Garda (province of Brescia, Lombardy), at Via della Libertà 77, 25084 Gargnano. The villa stands right on the water and has its own access to the lake.
How do wedding guests get to Villa Bettoni?
The nearest airports are Verona (about 1.5 hours by car), Bergamo (about 1.5–2 hours) and the Milan airports (about 2–2.5 hours). From southern Germany, Switzerland and Austria the journey by car is easy, for example via the Brenner Pass. For transfers from the hotel to the venue we recommend shuttle buses or – particularly stylish – boats, as the villa sits right on the lake.
How many guests can Villa Bettoni accommodate?
Capacity depends heavily on the set-up: celebrations outdoors – on the terraces and in the garden – can host considerably larger groups than the historic interiors. Figures from different sources range from around 150 to 300 guests. For Joana & Felix we planned the ceremony, aperitivo and dinner entirely outdoors. We confirm the exact maximum number for your wedding directly with the villa.
Can you have a civil ceremony at Villa Bettoni?
Villa Bettoni is especially popular for symbolic ceremonies – the terraces above the lake and the garden are made for them. Whether a legally binding civil ceremony is possible at the villa itself depends on the municipality’s current regulations. Many couples get legally married at home and celebrate their symbolic ceremony on Lake Garda – organisationally the simplest option. We are happy to advise you on the possibilities.
Is there accommodation at Villa Bettoni?
The villa is primarily an event venue, not a hotel. For your guests we recommend hotels and holiday apartments in Gargnano, Bogliaco, Toscolano-Maderno, Gardone Riviera or Salò – the western shore offers everything from simple to luxurious. As part of the planning we are happy to reserve room blocks for you.
When is the best time of year for a wedding on Lake Garda?
The wedding season on Lake Garda runs from May to early October. May, June and September are pleasantly warm and a little quieter, while July and August are hot and sunny – perfect for dinners outdoors, but the midday heat needs careful planning. At Joana & Felix’s wedding, white paper parasols and shaded seating kept the August ceremony comfortable for everyone.
What happens if the weather is bad?
An outdoor wedding always needs a plan B. Depending on the number of guests, the villa’s interiors, covered areas or a marquee can be used. We plan the bad-weather option from the start so that a decision can be made quickly and without stress on the wedding day.
Can you arrive at Villa Bettoni by boat?
Yes. The villa sits right on the water and has access from the lake. Arriving by motorboat is one of the most beautiful moments of a Lake Garda wedding – for Joana & Felix it was provided by Danieli Boat Service.
How late can you celebrate at Villa Bettoni?
The exact times for music and celebrations are set by the villa, and local noise regulations apply in Italy. In our experience you can party well into the night. We agree the timing for music, dancing and breakdown with the venue in advance.
Which vendors can you book at Villa Bettoni?
For catering, florals, music, lighting and technology we work with experienced partners from the region and from Germany. At Joana & Felix’s wedding, the team included Food & Sweet Catering, Il Fiore all’Occhiello, The Kingsmen, Melodia Wedding and CroVal. Whether the villa has any requirements regarding specific vendors is something we clarify during planning.
How much does a wedding at Villa Bettoni cost?
The cost depends on the number of guests, the season, the day of the week, catering, decoration and vendors – a wedding in a historic villa on Lake Garda sits in the upper price range. We are happy to put together a realistic budget plan for you before you commit.
Can you bring decor and furniture from Germany?
Yes. For Joana & Felix we delivered the escort wall in macchiato beige, Basque baskets and an acrylic gift box from our rental company vonRock in Elzach to Lake Garda, set them up on site and collected them again after the wedding. That way you get exactly your look – even 500 kilometres from home.
Why is a wedding planner worth it for a wedding on Lake Garda?
A destination wedding means a foreign language, unfamiliar vendors, different processes and a venue you may have seen only once beforehand. As wedding planners we know the processes, coordinate all vendors, are on site on the day itself and make sure you can simply enjoy your day – just as Stephie & Sophia did for Joana & Felix.
